Aggregate quality control ensures that crushed material consistently meets the size, shape, and strength specifications required for its intended application — whether that's concrete production, road base, or asphalt.

Particle size distribution (gradation) testing, performed by passing samples through a series of standard sieves, verifies that output matches the target specification for each product fraction. Regular sampling throughout production catches drift in screen performance or crusher settings before it affects large volumes of material.

Particle shape matters significantly for concrete and asphalt applications — elongated or flaky particles reduce workability and structural performance compared to well-shaped, cubical particles. Flakiness index testing quantifies this characteristic, and crusher type selection (cone and impact crushers generally produce better shape than jaw crushers alone) directly influences results.

Los Angeles Abrasion testing measures aggregate resistance to degradation from impact and abrasion, an important indicator for materials used in high-stress applications like road surfacing or heavy-duty concrete.

Moisture content testing affects both material handling (excess moisture can cause screen blinding) and downstream use, particularly for concrete production where aggregate moisture directly affects mix water calculations.
