Mobile vs Stationary Crushing Plants
The choice between mobile and stationary crushing plants shapes both your capital investment structure and your long-term operational flexibility.
Stationary plants are built for permanent quarry or mining operations where the material source remains fixed for many years. They typically offer the highest throughput capacities, more sophisticated multi-stage crushing and screening circuits, and lower per-ton operating costs at scale — but require significant upfront civil works and a long-term commitment to the site.
Mobile plants, whether wheeled or tracked, are designed to be relocated between sites as material sources or project locations change. This makes them the natural choice for contract crushing operations, demolition recycling projects, road construction that moves along a route, or quarries with a limited proven reserve at any single location.
Mobile plants generally cost more per ton of installed capacity than stationary equivalents, reflecting the engineering required for transportability, but this premium is often justified by the flexibility to redeploy the asset across multiple revenue-generating projects over its lifetime.
Some operations use a hybrid approach — a semi-mobile plant that's relocated infrequently (every few years) as a quarry face advances, combining much of stationary plant efficiency with periodic repositioning flexibility.
The right choice depends on the certainty and duration of your material source, the value of flexibility to your business model, and how capital-constrained your operation is at the point of investment.
